On the Borders of Translation in Children's Books: Transedition and Transcreation
In translating for young audiences textual transformations have traditionally been a norm rather than an exception, guided by adults’ perception of the needs and abilities of children. This lecture will explore some cases in English-Polish children’s literature translation practice that depart quite far from the prototypical notion of ‘translation’ and can be described as representing ‘transedition’ and ‘transcreation’, trying to discover contemporary motivations of applying those approaches.
